Since her release in 1959, Barbie has had many professions; Musician, astronaut, even a broadcast reporter. Now, she’s going to be an archaeologist and Tomb Raider.
Just in time for the cinematic release of the new Tomb Raider film, doll maker Mattel has unveiled a Lara Croft Barbie based on actress Alicia Vikander.
The new film follows in the footsteps of the 2013 origin story reboot game, which saw Lara and the crew of the Endurance stranded on the island of Yamatai, and her struggle to survive against the dangers of the lost kingdom and its unhinged inhabitants.
Focusing heavily on character development, the story shows Lara’s journey to becoming a battle-ready, hardy explorer and ultimately, a survivor.
The doll comes with Lara’s signature red pickaxe as well as a map and journal, and features the outfit from the 2013 game, complete with bandages and a painted on hand wrap.
Available now for pre-order on the Barbie website, little Lara is set for release on March 9th for the price of $29.99 (around £21).
The new Tomb Raider movie is showing in cinemas across the UK already, however, for American audiences it hit cinemas on March 16th.
While as yet unannounced, there is speculation that the heavily teased Shadows of the Tomb Raider, the third game in the reboot series, will be unveiled this year.
