Paisley Fireworks cancelled due to severe weather forecast

Renfrewshire Council has cancelled Paisley Fireworks because of high winds and heavy rain.

A severe weather forecast for the weekend has resulted in the cancellation of the event.

The council decided today to pull Paisley’s Fireworks Spectacular over safety fears, after consulting an event advisory group.

A spokesman said: “We are really sorry to let you know that we are cancelling Saturday’s Fireworks event in Paisley.

“This is due to severe wind gusts and rain forecast for tomorrow and the rest of the weekend, which make it impossible for us to deliver the event safely.”

Thousands were expected to attend the 90s-themed event on Saturday 3rd November.

Paisley town centre was set to host family-friendly activities throughout the day, leading up to the colourful fireworks in the sky above Paisley Abbey.
