On 22nd January, he gained an Academy Award Nomination for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in the film Bohemian Rhapsody.
The 37-year-old was overwhelmed by the sudden news.
He was working in Paris at the time and was completely unaware that the announcement was going to be made.
Bohemian Rhapsody has earned five Oscar nominations: Best Picture, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Film Editing and Best Actor for Rami Malek’s portrayal.
The Oscars is set to take place on the 24th of February (USA) with many celebrities nominated for Best Actor/Actress.
Bradley Cooper, Willem Dafoe, Olivia Colman and Lady Gaga will join Malek in the running for their respective roles.
