Actor and Trainspotting 2 star Bradley Welsh has been shot dead in Edinburgh, according to reports.
Emergency services rushed to the scene at Chester Street around 8pm on Wednesday evening, with armed police and a dog unit also attending after reports of a shooting.
A man reported to be Welsh was found at the scene with serious injuries. He died at the scene.
Police are treating the incident as suspicious, releasing a statement saying: “His death is being treated as suspicious and inquiries are continuing.
“Officers will continue to provide a high-visibility presence in the area to engage with the public, offer reassurance and gather information that can assist with this investigation.”
Welsh, 42, who starred alongside Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremmer, Johnny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle in T2 Trainspotting played the gangland figure Mr Doyle.
Irvine Welsh, author of Trainspotting who is said to be friends with the actor has led tributes with a message on twitter: “Bradley John Welsh, my heart is broken. Goodbye my amazing beautiful friend.
“Thanks for making me a better person and helping me to see the world in a kinder wiser way.”
Anyone who has any information about the incident is being urged to come forward.
